Marketing Automation within Dynamics CRM: Highlights of the August 2013 Dynamics CRM Seattle User Group Meeting

This past Wednesday, the CRMUG PacNW (Seattle) Regional Chapter held their bi-monthly meeting at the Microsoft Advanta office in Bellevue, WA. The focus of the meeting was marketing automation within Dynamics CRM, and Dynamics users from several large Pacific Northwest organizations turned out to discuss best practices and future trends in marketing and sales management within Dynamics CRM. After a brief welcome and introduction session, the focus shifted to a series of presentations on how Dynamics CRM can be enhanced and customized for some key marketing and sales operations tasks.

First, Brian Mullinax of Tecplot gave us a look at how Tecplot has adjusted and tweaked Dynamics CRM for enhanced customer service case management. Tecplot is also successfully using Dynamics CRM to track sales and registrations of customer software licenses, and Brian showed some great examples of how Tecplot’s sales and customer service operations have become more streamlined within Dynamics, with key customer information now easily accessible among all Tecplot departments.

Next, Jeff Marcoux of Microsoft gave a great presentation on MarketingPilot. This was a key acquisition for Microsoft last year, one that helps Microsoft continue to move towards an integrated marketing management solution within Dynamics CRM. MarketingPilot helps marketers better manage content, resources, and campaigns. Some of the specific benefits include the ability to get real-time insight into campaign spend and marketing budgets, consolidate and compare media buying, manage projects between teams, and automate marketing operations. Microsoft has big plans for MarketingPilot, and there will be a full MarketingPilot presentation at a future Dynamics CRM Seattle user group meeting (stay tuned for more details!)

Meghan Burner of ClickDimensions gave the last presentation, a high level overview of the ClickDimensions marketing automation application. Designed for specific integration with Dynamics CRM, ClickDimensions works with Dynamics 2011 and 4.0, and can run in online, on-premise, or partner hosted deployments. ClickDimensions provides a full set of marketing capabilities, such as email marketing, online form captures, nurture marketing, customer surveys, social discovery, and more. For marketers looking for a marketing automation solution that will integrate easily with Dynamics CRM, ClickDimensions is definitely worth a look.

The date of the next Dynamics CRM Seattle user group meeting is yet to be announced, but it will most likely be in December (we’ll post the date as soon as we have it).
