There are many reasons to join West Monroe Partners. The people are extraordinarily friendly, helpful and just cool. It’s a young, rapidly growing company taking on interesting projects. The compensation and benefits are great. The location in downtown Chicago is fantastic. All of these things drew me in and joining West Monroe was the right choice for me. However, there is another aspect to life at West Monroe that I did not expect and that I have come to love. That is the phenomenal emphasis given to service work at this firm.
At West Monroe you truly feel like you are responsible for giving back to society. We are all extraordinarily lucky to be where we are today, and can each make a massive difference helping those less fortunate. Through West Monroe, I have had a multitude of opportunities to do that within just the four months since I joined. I worked on a Habitat for Humanity site helping rebuild a community on the Chicago south-side that has been ravaged by poverty. I spent a few hours volunteering with the Salvation Army making blankets and serving food. I spent a few Saturdays mulching trees at an arboretum and culling buckthorn with the Forest Preserve, helping restore the natural lands around Chicago. I helped repair donated bikes and wrap Secret-Santa gifts, both for underprivileged children this holiday season. I even spent a Saturday at Wrigley Field running a concession stand to benefit the Lakeview Food Pantry.
At each of these events I was able to bond with extraordinary colleagues across the firm. I have met so many people with great differences in background, age, practice, and beliefs who all not only share an office, but also a commitment to seeing a brighter future. These service opportunities are part of West Monroe’s 1+1+1 mantra. This means that the company is committed to donating 1% each of Time, Talent and Treasure. We each can contribute Time by giving hours to volunteering, Talent by working on pro-bono projects for good causes, and Treasure through donation matching. This was one of the founding values of the company 13 years ago, and it is still just as important as ever. There are so many opportunities at West Monroe to give back to the community that there is something for everyone, no matter what your interests or commitments.
Service is simply an integral part of the West Monroe culture and I love it.
