Resolving Internet Explorer 11, Windows 8.1 and CRM Dynamics Compatibility Issues

With the latest release of Internet Explorer 11 (October 2013) several of my clients have experienced compatibility issues while using Windows 8.1 and working with Dynamics CRM 2013 Online.  To help them solve these compatibility issues, a few simple steps were put into place to quickly resolve their issues and get them back on track and working with Dynamics CRM.  My hope is that these steps will help you as well.

Internet Explorer Options

Before working within CRM, there are a couple of Internet Explorer options that may need to be set, depending on the version of Internet Explorer and Windows OS.

Compatibility View

  1. Go to Tools > Compatibility View Settings.
  2. Copy and paste the URL from your CRM sight into the “Add this website” box. (Internet Explorer will take the information it requires. So the entire URL address may not be displayed.)
  3. Press Add.
  4. Check to make sure to check the option to “Display all websites in Compatibility View”.

Note:  In the event you receive an error message after you have set your compatibility view, you may need to reset it again, log out of CRM and then log back into the tool.

Pop Up Blocker

CRM still makes use of pop ups.  By default, Pop Up Blocker is usually turned on to not allow pop ups.  To minimize the risk of repeat messages, it is recommended to add the CRM URL to the list of allowable pop ups.  To do this:

Open Internet Explorer.

  1. Navigate to Tools > Internet Options.
  2. Select the Privacy tab.
  3. Select Settings in the Pop-up Blocker section.
  4. Copy and paste the URL from your CRM sight into the “Add this website” box. (Internet Explorer will take the information it requires. So the entire URL address may not be displayed.)

  4. Click on the Sites button.

  6. Copy and paste the URL from your CRM sight into the “Add this website” box. (Internet Explorer will take the information it requires. So the entire URL address may not be displayed.)

Log In Options

Each time you log into CRM, you will be prompted for your credentials.  To prevent this, perform the following:

  1. Navigate to Tools > Internet Options.
  2. Select the Security tab then the Custom Level button.
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the list and select Automatic login with current users name and password.
